Republican Second District Congressional candidate Shawn Tiffany boycotted a televised debate Thursday over his frustration with former Attorney General Derek Schmidt missing the event because of a scheduling conflict.
Tiffany's and Schmidt's absence from the debate - broadcast on KTWU in Topeka - gave the third major candidate in the race, Jeff Kahrs, a pass to criticize his rivals without rebuttal.
Kahrs was joined at the debate by two lesser-known candidates, Chad Young of Lawrence and Mike Ogle of Topeka.
