Increasing the state gas tax was among a series of broad recommendations a task force made Thursday for ways to meet billions of dollars in state transportation needs.
The 35-member committee, created by the Kansas Legislature last session, wrapped the idea of raising the state's 24-cents-a-gallon gas tax into a package of funding ideas. The state's gas tax was last raised in 2003.
Other funding proposals recommended for the Legislature to consider were registration fees on electric vehicles, higher vehicle registration fees, tolling and using the state's current sales tax. The panel also . . .
