Urban areas across Kansas, most notably Johnson County, would have had the most votes discounted if the three-day grace period had not been in effect for the primary election this year, new data show.
The data compiled by the secretary of state's office show that 996 mail ballots arrived at local election offices in the three days after the polls closed at 7 p.m. on Aug. 4. Another 84 ballots arrived after the three-day grace period.
