State education board names Neuenswander replacement

The Kansas State Board of Education named a former teacher, principal and superintendent with 30 years of experience in public education as the new replacement for Craig Neuenswander, the state’s deputy education commissioner.

The board on Tuesday approved the hiring of Frank Harwood as the new deputy commissioner of fiscal and administrative services at the Kansas State Department of Education. Harwood starts his new duties Friday.

Harwood replaces Neuenswander, who retired last month after serving more than 40 years in public education.

Neuenswander had been with the Kansas State Department of Education since 2011.
