Senate approves ban on transgender medical treatment for children; Bill goes to House Thursday

The Kansas Senate on Wednesday approved legislation banning surgery and the use of puberty blockers for treating transgender adolescents in Kansas as lawmakers make another run at approving a bill that has been rejected by the governor.

The Senate voted 32-8 to approve a measure that has failed in each of the past two legislative sessions when Republicans weren't able to override Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly's veto of the bill.
