(4th Update reflects new comment from Senate majority leader)
State Sen. Barbara Bollier of Mission Hills brought her strained relationship with the Republican Party to an end Wednesday, announcing that she's switched to the Democratic Party.
In an announcement sent out by Senate Democrats just before 9 a.m. Wednesday, Bollier announced she was leaving the Republican Party.
"I’ve been a proud Kansas Republican for 43 years,” Bollier said in a statement. "But during the last eight years, I’ve grown increasingly uncomfortable with Republican leaders’ hard-line rhetoric, contempt for compromise, and obsession with putting political power . . .
