Touting his campaign theme of "leaning in on costs," Republican gubernatorial candidate Ken Selzer says he can trim the state workforce to help better manage expenses.

Appearing on the Pete Mundo show on KCMO radio Tuesday morning, Selzer said the state payroll can be reduced just like the Insurance Department staff was trimmed while he was commissioner.

"We can always, always be more efficient," Selzer said. "We can reduce the number of employees in state government and do it thoughtfully, carefully, and manage Kansas government costs to a much better place than it is now."
