Schwab staffer departing for conservative think tank

Assistant Secretary of State Catherine Gunsalus is leaving her position to become the state
advocacy director for Heritage Action for America.

Gunsalus, who also served as chief of staff for Secretary of State Scott Schwab, will be replaced by Jennifer Cook, a former deputy bank commissioner and staffer for former Gov. Sam Brownback and former U.S. Sen Pat Roberts.

Gunsalus had been with Schwab since he was in the House as speaker pro tem and was set to manage his reelection campaign for secretary of state.

The campaign responsibilities will now be turned over to Cook.
