Secretary of State Scott Schwab on Tuesday named Connie Schmidt as the permanent Johnson County election commissioner, an appointment that was questioned by the chair of the Johnson County Commission.
Schmidt had been serving in an interim role since last December after Fred Sherman resigned from the position.
“Her extensive experience and knowledge of election administration make her exceptionally qualified for this role," Schwab said in a statement. " We are excited to welcome Connie back to Johnson County.”
Schmidt has more than 31 years of experience in election administration.
