It's been widely speculated for weeks that Democratic state Rep. Tom Sawyer would challenge Jim Ward for minority leader.
Late Tuesday, Sawyer made it official with an email he sent to Democratic House members asking for their support to unseat Ward when their caucus votes on leadership next month.
"Things are looking very good. The response to my candidacy has been very positive," Sawyer said in the email.
