Newly sworn in Kansas Treasurer Lynn Rogers on Monday announced new senior staff including Lauren Tice Miller as assistant state treasurer.
Tice Miller moves over to the treasurer’s office after working as communications director for outgoing Senate Minority Leader Anthony Hensley, who did not win reelection.
A graduate of Kansas State University with bachelor’s and master’s degrees in communications studies, Tice Miller had worked for Hensley since 2013.
She had previously worked as director of communications and event planning for the Kansas Pharmacists Association.
She also worked as director of marketing and communications for Linnwood Park Senior Care as well as marketing and communications manager for the Kansas Society of Certified Public Accountants.
She also is the Shawnee Heights School Board president.
Also moving over with Rogers to the treasurer’s office is Lucas Peterson, who had worked as a special assistant to Rogers as lieutenant governor.
Peterson will be Rogers’ special assistant as treasurer.
He previously worked as a special assistant to Gov. Laura Kelly’s transition team and as news director for KSDB-FM in Manhattan.
He earned a political science degree from Kansas State.
Rogers also will hire Kyle Freese from the governor’s office, where he worked as communications coordinator.
Freese, a University of Kansas graduate with a degree in political science, will work as a communications coordinator for the treasurer’s office.
He also worked as a legislative intern for Democratic state Sen. Oletha Faust-Goudeau and on the campaign staff of Brian McClendon’s unsuccessful campaign for secretary of state.
Rogers, a former state senator from Wichita, is replacing Republican Jake LaTurner, who was just elected to Congress in the 2nd District.
The former Democratic lieutenant governor plans to run for a full four-year term when LaTurner’s current term ends in 2022.
Rogers said he plans to make more staff announcements in the coming weeks.
He said he doesn’t plan to make any changes in the current professional staff in the treasurer’s office.
