Regents approve new admissions standard

The Kansas Board of Regents on Wednesday approved a new standard that calls for using GPA instead of class ranking as part of the admission requirements for most state universities.

With limited discussion, the board approved the plan, meaning class ranking will not be used for admission to Kansas State, Wichita State, Emporia State, Pittsburg State and Fort Hays State universities.

Class ranking is not used at the University of Kansas, although the school does use a combination of an ACT score and GPA.
