House Minority Leader Vic Miller of Topeka lost his primary bid for the state Senate on Tuesday after fighting a wave of attacks comparing him to former Gov. Sam Brownback, Attorney General Kris Kobach and claiming he was opposed to abortion rights.

Former Naval intelligence officer Patrick Schmidt, just two years removed from an unsuccessful run for Congress, won the primary for Senate District 19.

He received 53% of the vote in a three-person field. Miller finished a distant second with 34%, while ShaMecha King Simms finished last with 13%.

Miller's defeat will bring to an end speculation . . .
