Legislature puts $10 million toward stadium improvements ahead of World Cup


The Legislature has approved Gov. Laura Kelly's request for $10 million to improve the home of the Sporting Kansas City soccer club ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

The Legislature agreed to the proposal, which was part of a package of spending amendments that Kelly sought from the Legislature as the session neared an end.

The project includes the transformation of the current Mazuma Plaza outside of Children’s Mercy Park to create an entertainment district for large-scale public gatherings and major events similar to KC Live in the . . .
