The Kansas Legislature would get a hand in picking vacancies for the U.S. Senate in Kansas under a bill introduced this week in the House elections committee.
The new legislation, similar to an unsuccessful effort in the Senate last year, would give the Legislature a voice in not only picking a replacement for the U.S. Senate but state insurance commissioner and state treasurer.
The bill does not include secretary of state and attorney general because they are constitutional offices and a constitutional amendment is required to change how vacancies for how those positions are picked.
