Kansas Treasurer Jake LaTurner became the first candidate to officially jump into the U.S. Senate race to replace Pat Roberts, announcing plans to run for the seat in 2020.

“Kansas Republicans deserve a candidate for the U.S. Senate who shares their values and is willing to stand up and fight for those values in Washington," LaTurner said in a statement emailed out Tuesday morning.

“As a conservative, I will fight every day to represent our Kansas conservative values in Washington . . .
