Lansing inmate wins round in court against state in religious freedom case

An inmate at the Lansing Correctional Institute won a round in court against the state Corrections Department over claims that the state is denying him the right to express his faith as a member of a church which practices the sacramental ingestion of peyote.

A three-member panel of the Kansas Court of Appeals reinstated the lawsuit brought by Clinton Lee McKinney, who claimed that the state violated his right to freely exercise his religion as a member of the Native American Church.
