UPDATED: Labor Department stops $22 billion in false claims

(Updated: Corrects time frame for fraudulent claims blocked; Number is since Jan. 1, 2020, not since new security software was installed.)

Gov. Laura Kelly said Monday that the Kansas Labor Department has blocked more than a half million fraudulent unemployment claims that could have cost more than $22 billion if they had been paid out.

Kelly cited the number of fraudulent claims denied since Jan. 1, 2020, in the context  of reporting the results of new security software that was installed at the Labor Department at the beginning of the month.

The new software has blocked almost 5 million fradulent . . .
