When the 2022 Legislature comes to a close, so will the 26-year career of Democratic state Rep. Annie Kuether.
The Topeka lawmaker on Wednesday revealed to members of her caucus that she would be retiring after her term ends this year, ending a legislative career that spanned six governors from Republican Bill Graves to Democrat Laura Kelly.
"It's bittersweet," Kuether said. "There are moments that are really like, 'yikes.' It's hard. Every morning I drive in, I think one less day to go down into that parking garage."
