Former Kansas Secretary of State Kris Kobach declared victory late Tuesday night in his bid for state attorney general, capping off an extraordinary political comeback marked by a rugged primary where he overcame stiff opposition from within his own party.

Battling out of a three-person Republican primary where he was outgunned financially, Kobach unified his political rivals behind him to defeat Chris Mann, a lawyer who rebuilt his career after he was seriously injured years ago as a Lawrence police officer

With all precincts counted, Kobach was leading Mann by 22,699 votes, according to unofficial results reported by . . .
