Key senator: Schools for Fair Funding ‘harmed themselves’

The group suing the state over school funding damaged its credibility when it reversed positions and backed away from Gov. Laura Kelly's plan to end litigation over school finance, a key lawmaker said Friday.

Republican state Sen. Molly Baumgardner, chair of the Senate Select Committee on Education Finance, said she was troubled by Schools for Fair Funding's sudden about-face on the bill.

"I think that they have harmed themselves," Baumgardner said. "Whose word are we going to trust?"

Baumgardner said the sudden reversal in positions raises questions about just how much money it will take to comply . . .
