Former longtime Overland Park Chamber of Commerce president Mary Birch, a key player in the Kansas City area business community, for the first time is publicly backing a Democratic candidate for governor.
Birch, whose political roots run deep in both government and economic development circles in the Kansas City area, has confided to friends that she's backing Laura Kelly in the Kansas governor's race.
"In my 65 years as a Kansan I have never publicly endorsed a Democrat for anything. I have voted for a few but never endorsed," Birch said in an email obtained by the Sunflower . . .
