Gov. Laura Kelly on Monday vetoed a bill preventing the state from denying parents the ability to adopt or foster children if they don't comply with policies running counter to their religious or moral beliefs about sexuality or gender identity.
“The top priority of the Kansas Department for Children and Families should be adhering to the 'best-interest-of-the-child' standard," Kelly said in a statement.
"Legislation like this detracts from this standard and stands in the way . . .
