Kelly says proposed food-assistance cuts jeopardize support for 27,000 Kansans

Gov. Laura Kelly said it would be "total bunk" for anyone to expect states to make up any cuts in the food-assistance program proposed by the "Big, Beautiful Bill" that is now making its way through the Senate.

Joining in a virtual national media call Wednesday with Democratic Govs. Andy Beshear of Kentucky, Matt Meyer of Delaware and Maura Healey of Massachusetts, Kelly denounced the cuts proposed for the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program.

They were joined by Democratic U.S. Sen. Amy Klobuchar of Minnesota and Democratic U.S. Sen. Lisa Blunt Rochester of Delaware.
