Kelly: Pension payment restructuring a ‘good, sound fiscal tool’

Gov. Laura Kelly said Thursday that her proposed budget doesn't count on restructuring payments into the state's pension system.

"I don't need the reamotorization to pay for items in the budget this year," Kelly told reporters after signing an executive order creating the Governor's Council of Education.

"What we need reamotorization for is the long-term stability of KPERS and the state budget," she said, referring to the Kansas Public Employees Retirement System. "It is a good, sound fiscal tool and one that we need to implement."
