Johnson County Democrats elect new chair

Johnson County Democrats on Saturday turned the reins of the local party over to a former Kansas House candidate who is promising to crack areas of the county that tend to lean more conservative.

The county party elected Deann Mitchell as its new chair. She ran unsuccessfully in 2018 against state Rep. Adam Thomas despite an election perjury charge filed against the Republican over questions she raised about his residency.

Mitchell takes over for Nancy Leiker, whose tenure as party chair saw the Democrats make great strides . . .
