House speaker spokesman moving to Insurance Department

Eric Turek, the communications director for outgoing House Speaker Ron Ryckman Jr., is moving over to the Insurance Department where he will lead the agency's lobbying efforts.

Turek, who worked for Ryckman throughout his three terms as speaker, replaces Lee Modesitt as director government and public affairs.

Modesitt recently left the department to take a job in the private sector. Turek starts in September.

“Eric has an exceptional familiarity of the legislative process and policymaking,” Insurance
Commissioner Vicki Schmidt said in a statement.
