House Republicans, Democrats elect new leaders

House members picked their new leadership teams Monday, electing House Majority Leader Dan Hawkins as the new speaker and state Rep. Vic Miller as the top Democrat.

Hawkins' election had largely been expected for months, while Miller emerged as a leading candidate soon after state Rep. Tom Sawyer announced that he would step down as the minority leader in the House.

Hawkins said he expected the House to be every bit as conservative - if not more so - as the last four years.
