Governor vetoes money for alternative abortion programs

Gov. Laura Kelly on Friday vetoed part of the state budget that allocated money for promoting alternatives to abortion and banned the use of diversity, equity and inclusion in hiring at state universities.

The governor also vetoed a portion of the budget that gave lifetime hunting and fishing licenses for kids up to 15 years old and moved $9 million from the Transportation Department to the Board of Regents for research.

She also rejected an item because it could have benefited only one contractor.
