Governor signs legislation providing housing protections for domestic violence survivors

Gov. Laura Kelly on Monday signed a bill that will help domestic violence victims more easily break costly leases to seek refuge from abusive relationships.

Kelly signed the bill - backed by Sens. Dinah Sykes and Oletha Faust Goudeau - that will relieve tenants of their responsibility for rent after leaving the property in cases of domestic violence, sexual assault, stalking or human trafficking.
