Governor signs historic water funding bill

Gov. Laura Kelly on Thursday signed a bill that puts a historic amount of money into the state water plan to preserve the state's dwindling supply of water.

The bill Kelly signed into law puts $35 million into the water plan in 2024 with the intent of appropriating that amount in each of 2025, 2026 and 2027.

Of that money, $5 million would go to a fund for providing water technical assistance to municipalities and $12 million for a fund to match federal dollars for water conservation projects . . .
