Kansas Gov. Jeff Colyer on Tuesday signed a bill establishing a new task force to explore ways for expanding broadband service throughout Kansas.

The task force will advise and make recommendations regarding broadband issues and accessibility across Kansas.

“The issue of broadband accessibility has been discussed for many years and now it is time to take action,” Colyer said in a statement.

The task force’s mission includes creating a statewide map for evaluating the state’s broadband needs.

The panel will then identify and document risks, issues and limits associated with a expanding broadband service statewide.

The task force will be comprised of 17 people, including legislators as well as representatives from cities, counties, telecommunications associations, various carriers, Electric Co-Ops, and others.

The bill passed unanimously in the Senate and on 117-3 vote in the House.
