Governor Laura Kelly has signed a bill capping punitive damages resulting from out-of-control fires blamed on electric utilities in Kansas.
The bill would limit punitive damages for a wildfire to $5 million a claim, an amount already spelled out elsewhere in the law.
The bill would establish a two-year statute of limitations on fire claims, beginning the date of the damage from the fire event.
