Gov. Laura Kelly on Friday turned to someone with a mix of firefighting and law enforcement experience to be the next state fire marshal.
Kelly named Mark Engholm to replace Doug Jorgensen, who is set to retire Dec. 11. Engholm's appointment must be confirmed by the state Senate.
A 1996 graduate of Kansas State University, Engholm worked for the Shawnee Heights Fire District in 2003, where he was awarded Firefighter of the Year in 2005 and 2007.
He became a squad leader in 2008 . . .
