Gov. Laura Kelly on Friday criticized a Senate committee's treatment of her labor secretary, saying she was "appalled" at the behavior of some lawmakers during a hearing on Thursday.

"If they want to take cheap political shots, come after me," Kelly said. "Do not go after my staff who are working day and night trying to help the people of Kansas.

"Yesterday's performance in the Senate Commerce Committee was uncalled for."

Kelly didn't single out any lawmakers by name, but Republican state Sen. Rob Olson called for the removal of the labor secretary.
