(Updated to include political leanings of district)
Democratic state Rep. Dave Benson on Friday stepped down from his seat in the Kansas House.
Benson said his resignation from the 48th District seat was effectively immediately.
"It has been an honor to represent my district and community, and I will leave with fond memories of my time in the Kansas statehouse," Benson said in his resignation letter.
"I am assured that whoever takes my place in the House will represent the 48th District with thoughtfulness, integrity, and transparency," he said.
The resignation comes about a week before the Legislature is set . . .
