UPDATED: Former TV meteorologist announces state Senate bid

Meteorologist Mike Thompson on Monday morning announced he was running to replace Republican Mary Pilcher-Cook in the state Senate.

Thompson will be campaigning for support from the Republican precinct committee members who will meet Jan. 11 to pick Pilcher-Cook's replacement in Senate District 10.

He's believed to be the favorite although no one else has publicly announced interest in the seat.

Thompson said he will run for a full four-year term in 2020, setting up a primary with Republican . . .
