Former Republican state Rep. Mike Kiegerl of Olathe, who immigrated from Germany to the United States because he was inspired by the kindness of American soldiers, has died.
He was 84.
Kiegerl died Feb. 1 in his bed with his wife of 60 years holding his hand and his dog nestled at his side.
Kiegerl served two stints in the Kansas House, one from 2005 to 2013 and another from 2013 to February 2017.
Kiegerl stepped down from his 121st House District seat in 2017, citing a heart condition.
