Dietrich announces state Senate bid

Republican state Rep. Brenda Dietrich on Monday filed to run for the Kansas Senate in a district now represented by Republican Sen. Eric Rucker.

Dietrich, former superintendent of the Auburn-Washburn school district, is running for the District 20 seat, once represented by current Insurance Commissioner Vicki Schmidt.

Local Republican leaders picked Rucker to fill the seat after Schmidt was elected insurance commissioner last year.

The district has been somewhat of a mixed bag in recent years, going for Laura Kelly in last year's gubernatorial election, President Donald Trump in 2016, Paul Davis in the 2014 governor's race . . .
