Democratic leaders on Thursday night chose a former top aide in the state Revenue Department to replace state Rep. Vic Miller in House District 58.
Precinct members voted 20-4 to pick Freda Warfield to fill Miller's unexpired term representing this Topeka-centered House district. Warfield defeated the Rev. Ben Scott, who won the seat through the same process three years ago.
It is believed to be the first time a woman has represented House District 58.
"Isn't that awesome? Isn't that a privilege?" an elated Warfield said . . .
