Democratic leaders on Saturday picked Wichita activist and businesswoman Mary Ware to replace Lt. Gov.-elect Lynn Rogers in the Kansas Senate.
Meeting in Wichita, precinct committee members chose Ware over four other candidates, including Kelly Schodorf, the daughter of former state Sen. Jean Schodorf. Ware also beat out Sebastian Snow, educator Dan Stiffler and Ty Tabing.
Ware received 10 votes to six for Schodorf and one for Tabing. Ware will serve out Rogers' four-term term in the District 25 seat.
