The Kansas Democratic Party is canceling its annual summer convention in favor of holding more regional events planned around the state.
The party is ending DemoFest, which is believed to have been held in Wichita since at least the late 1980s.
The party's executive director, Andriy Bilyk, said Thursday there have been discussions about eliminating the event since last year.
"It's really an exhaustive event to put together," he said.
