Less than 48 hours after the 2019 legislative session ended, Republican state Rep. Tom Cox announced he was running for the state Senate in a district now represented by conservative Republican Mary Pilcher-Cook.

First elected to the Kansas House in 2016, Cox filed to run in Senate District 10, which covers swaths of western and central Johnson County including parts of Shawnee, Overland Park and Lake Quivira.

"As a representative, we often passed great legislation, but consistently found ourselves blocked by the Senate," Cox said in a statement.
