County group campaigns for Legislature to restore local funding

The state's biggest organization representing Kansas counties is making a push to get the Legislature to once again allocate money that's sent back to local governments with the intention of holding down property taxes.

The Kansas Association of Counties is coordinating an effort statewide with its local county members to make the public aware of the local ad valorem tax reduction fund, which up until 2003 sent money to local government to help keep property taxes low.

Three years ago, Gov. Laura Kelly proposed putting $54 million a year into the LAVTR fund to keep property taxes low . . .
