Corrections nominee’s confirmation in trouble, Senate Republicans say

Top Senate Republicans on Wednesday signaled that Gov. Laura Kelly's nominee for corrections secretary is in trouble because a judge questioned his candor in an open-records lawsuit in Idaho.

Senate President Susan Wagle and Senate Majority Leader Jim Denning said that Jeff Zmuda would have trouble winning nomination because a judge said his testimony in an open-records lawsuit was "disingenuous."

Zmuda's nomination surfaced at a meeting of the state Finance Council on Wednesday as legislative leaders considered plans . . .
