UPDATED: Colyer campaign lays down first ad buy; GOP primary spending exceeds $3 million

Former Gov. Jeff Colyer’s campaign laid down its first television ad buy for his 2026 campaign for governor, as TV spending on the GOP side now exceeds $3 million so far.

Colyer’s campaign new campaign emphasizes faith and patriotism with mentions of President Donald Trump and former President Ronald Reagan.

The new spend totals about $408,00, which augments the $823,000 that has been spent in support of Colyer by Kansas 1st, a social welfare group that is not required to disclose its donors.

The Colyer campaign is spending about $64,000 on satellite, about $137,00 in the Wichita market, about $45,000 in the Kansas City market, about $111,500 in Topeka and about $50,700 in the Joplin/Pittsburg market, according to the national ad tracking firm AdImpact.

The new ad buy runs from about May 5 through May 26.

Republican television spending in the Republican primary for governor now totals about $2.89 million, according to AdImpact

Republican Insurance Commissioner Vicki Schmidt has booked about $972,000 in television spending, followed by Johnson County businessman Philip Sarnecki, who has now booked or spent about $898,000.

About $1.3 million of all Republican television ad spending is going to Wichita, about $631,000 is going to Kansas City, about $674,900 is going into Topeka, about $336,000 has gone to satellite and about $162,400 has gone to the Pittsburg/Joplin market.

Democrats have not reported spending any money on television in the governor’s race so far.
