State Rep. Stephanie Clayton of Overland Park announced Wednesday morning she is switching parties to become a Democrat.
"I have been a proud Republican my entire life," Clayton said in an announcement emailed out after 8 a.m.
"Johnson County is the economic engine of the state, and the fuel for that engine is our education system," Clayton said in a statement.
"I believe that I can better serve my constituents, and support education as a member of the Democratic Party."
