Brownback looms large at governor’s debate

Gov. Sam Brownback left Kansas months ago.

But on Tuesday, the former governor loomed as a backdrop for the Kansas governor's race as Republican Kris Kobach, Democrat Laura Kelly and independent Greg Orman met in a televised forum in Wichita.

As she has throughout the campaign, Kelly linked Kobach to the former governor who at one point was one of the least popular chief executives in the country. Kobach resisted the comparison, suggesting that Kelly shares Brownback's approach to governing.

Kelly used Kobach's support for tax cuts to demonstrate that the secretary of state wants to return . . .
