Kansas Labor Secretary Delia Garcia on Monday resigned after weeks of turmoil brought about by an agency overwhelmed with hundreds of thousands of unemployment claims as the economy ground to a halt because of the coronavirus.
Garcia, a former Democratic state legislator, had been the focal point for Republican lawmakers who had become increasingly angry with the Labor Department's failure to move quickly to respond to the high volume of claims.
