State Supreme Court Justice Carol Beier announced Friday afternoon that she will retire later this year, giving Democratic Gov. Laura Kelly a third appointment to the state's highest court.
Beier has served on the state Supreme Court since 2003 after serving on the Kansas Court of Appeals. She will retire Sept. 18.
"I will be ever grateful for the opportunities I have been given to spend so much of my legal career in service to my home state and its citizens," Beier said in a statement.
